PSYClists Conquer River Road and Cold in Tour de Gruene

Kate Herrington, Rene and Bernadette Solórzano, Monte Bobele, Joan Biever, Danny Dominguez, Sylvia Rapini, and Heather Shealy

With the temperatures hovering in the mid 40s Saturday morning, the PSYClists made their 3rd appearance in the annual Tour de Gruene in Gruene Texas. The PSYClists’ colorful jerseys caught the eye of the ride starter who announced OLLU’s presence in the tour. The day was perfect for this ride – sunny, cool, and lots of friendly cyclists having a good time.

This event raises money for the American Red Cross and the Sally Kingsbury Sarcoma Foundation.

Tour de Cure is June 4 & 5

At the start of the 2009 Tour de Cure

I am hoping the PSYClists can have an impressive presence at the Tour de Cure again this year. This is a fun charity ride from  San Antonio to Austin, with an overnight stay in San Marcos. The registration is only $15 per rider right now. The fund-raising commitment is $200. I think everyone can meet the fund-raising goal – we have seven months to work on it. I will be posting more information about this ride over the next few weeks. In the meantime, if you want to join the PSYClists’ team for this ride go to the PSYClists’ team page at the Tour de Cure to sign up.

Weekend Ride Update

Last Saturday morning was a great day for a bike ride. Three of us (Kathleen, Heather, and MB)  left the Yard to join Danny D at the Tobin Park Trailhead. All of us rode between 27 and 30 miles.

Plans are to do a beginner’s ride and an intermediate ride next weekend.

The beginner’s ride will again start at the northern entrance of Tobin Park and will have distances from 3 to nine miles.

The link for the start point is:

http://www.texastrails.org/GoogleMaps/dsp_trailmap.cfm?id=1351
This is off the access road on the south side of Loop 410 between Harry Wurzbach and Perrin Beitel.

I would like to propose an intermediate ride that leaves at 9AM and begins at Mission San Jose. That way those of us who want a different ride can sleep a little later. I can take one additional rider if someone would like to carpool. We will meet in the parking lot behind the Mission and ride along the San Antonio River for a beautiful ride. A link to the Mission is below:

Alternatively, we could leave The Yard at 9AM and ride south to Mission Espada and back, about 30 miles.

Please leave a comment with your time and distance preferences. Please see the list of suggested items to bring with you on a ride in an earlier posting below. Please wear a helmet – it’s the law. Please bring a spare tube – you never know when you are going to have a flat. Hydration is important – bring some water or a sports drink!
