La Vernia Wild West Hammer Fest September 13th

Here is a perfect opportunity for the team to get out an make a showing. The HammerFest is September 13th. There are 28, 52, and 62 mile routes. There is a 10 mile “Family Ride,” also. Let’s plan on making a showing!  You can click the link above or in the column on the right under Upcoming Event Rides.

Shop at Craigslist for a used bike

For those of you still looking for a bargain in getting a bike, check out Craigslist. This is an online classified ads. If you are new to biking, consult with a more experienced rider about your purchase. Size counts – you want to be sure that a used bike fits you. Avoid Huffy, Mongoose, and other bikes sold at Target and Walmart. They are not safe or durable. Stick to major brands sold in bike shops like Trek, Gary FIsher, Fuji, Scott, Bianchi, Cannondale, etc. Professional bike shops (BikeWorld, RideAway, etc.) generally do not do service or repairs on these “department store bikes.”

Sunday Ride Olmos Park to Mission Park

This Sunday, let’s try something familiar and different.

An Olmos Park to Mission Park ride. We will saddle up at 8AM in the softball field parking lot at the southeast corner of McCullough and Basse (click on this link for a map to the start point). This is a fairly central location for everyone. Our leisurely ride will travel through scenic Olmos Park, Trinity University, North St Mary’s strip, downtown San Antonio, King William District, Roosevelt Park (by the old Lone Star Brewery), then the familiar Mission Trail, and back. This will be a nice tour for folks who are still getting acquainted with San Antonio. Depending on the will of the group, we could even stop and have breakfast on the way back. Hope to see all of you Sunday. If you know someone who would like to ride with us, bring them along. We will stay together and the total ride is just a bit over 20 miles.

As an update, we currently have 15 riders signed up for the MS150! Thanks to all of you who have made a commitment to this good cause.

Sunday’s Sunrise Ride

Brian, Fabian, and Beth at the ice house

Brian, Fabian, and Beth at the ice house

Nothing beats rural Bexar County in the early morning. The short, easy ride on the southeast of the city Sunday was relaxing and invigorating. We had two new riders join us: Beth Levy and Fabian Rodriguez. The early morning start enabled us to be done with the ride by 9:30.

If you have a preference for days, times, and locations for future rides, let us know.

Saturday Ride and Sunday Ride

Some of us are going to ride on Saturday morning as well as Sunday morning. If you would like to join us on Saturday morning, we are going to meet up with the San Antonio Wheelmen for a Stay Together Ride:

Saturday, July 26, 8:00 am, Stay-Together Ride @ the Cibolo Ride (NE) [F to R] | map to start

A 27 to 39 mile ride will be offered that includes a stop at a store for a break. Come with your bike, helmet, water bottle and /or Camelback, extra tube, bike pump, sunscreen, and any snack that you might want. See above “Cibolo Ride” for directions to ride start. Contact: Jerry H., 210/826-4869.

I can carpool and take one person who would like to meet me to drive out together.

Sunday ride is still the Elmendorf ride – see the map tab for more information. People said they wanted to start this ride early (7AM).  If a group wants to do a shorter ride and start at 8AM, please comment and we will try to arrange it. To get to the start point, go to the intersection of 181 and 1604 – the Park and Ride is easy to see. On the ride map it is designated Start/Finish.  I can carpool one rider on Sunday, too.

See you, Monte.

  5. Set up an account. Actually they are asking you to create a blog. You do this, whether you ever need to have a blog or not, but it gives you access to posting and creating comments on the PSYClists website. Otherwise, each post or comment you submit has to be emailed to me for approval. That slows things down and adds an extra step for me.

Conquer the Coast Ride

One excellent practice ride will be the upcoming Conquer the Coast Ride in Corpus in September. Perhaps the OLLU PSYClists could debut the team at this ride. The link is to the right. There is an easy looking 25 mile course along the water. Wadda think?
